Judges at this year’s 2010 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition awarded the Storrs 2006 Two Creek Vineyard Rhone-Blend red wine  “JUDGES’ CHOICE” and BEST OF CLASS.   In addition to accolades for our newly-released Rhone Red, we captured 3 more GOLD MEDALS:  our Santa Cruz Mountains-grown Pinot Noirs –  the 2007 Christie Vineyard Pinot and our 2006 Lester Family Vineyard Pinot – each garnered GOLD as well as our 2007 Central Coast Zinfandel.

The 2006 Two Creek Vineyard Rhone-blend hails from an old-vine vineyard located near the confluence of two mountain streams on the slopes of Mount Madonna.  Grown on a rock-flecked, alluvial plain, very reminiscent of the Rhone’s terroir, these ancient vines yield grapes filled with bold flavors and intense varietal character.  Steve and I, blended grapes of Syrah, Grenache and Grand Noir to create this winning wine.    Old vines on Mount Madonna were also home to the 2007 Central Coast Zinfandel.

Our two Pinot Noirs both hail from the Pleasant Valley district of Corralitos in the southern Santa Cruz Mountains.   Here, the nearby Pacific Ocean tempers the warmth of the mountain valley to provide the perfect mesoclimate to ripen Pinot Noirs that possess both beautiful fruit and great structure.

These accolades join the SWEEPSTAKES – BEST RED WINE OF SHOW win earlier this year for our 2007 Central Coast Grenache at the San Francisco International Wine Competition.
